Abstract
Japan has producedvery large quantitiesof power throughnuclear energy production, which of course, has beenunderlainby various nuclear and radiation sciencesand related technologies.Nuclear and radiation sciencehasalso been applied toa wide variety of non-energy fields.
After giving a short history ofthedevelopment of non-energy applications of nuclear and radiation science in Japan, current applicationswill also bereviewed. These applications will include:industrial and environmentaltopics, medical therapy and diagnosis, measurements based on characteristics of different types of radiation including non-destructive assay, and investigationsusing tracer and genetic mutation in agricultural science.On-going researchto develop potential non-energy applications for the future is also presented.
